Filmmaker, Creative, Husband and Father.

I’ve spent the last 17 years working as a graphic designer in Cardiff. With the last 13 of them as Creative Director at Black Sheep, an Advertising and Design agency in Cardiff Bay, as well as lecturing part-time on the BA(Hons) Advertising and Branding course at Swansea Metropolitan University.

My passion for filmmaking has transformed from early ‘home movie’ family films, that capture the memories of the journey we share together, to achieving 2nd place at a recent Vimeo ‘Weekend Project’ competition, one of my films being shown at a Travel Film Festival in New Delhi, India together with some of my footage being used in a Google Chromebook advertising campaign (with over 6.5 million hits) which has led to incredible feedback and encouragement from personal and business sources for me to create films professionally.

What experience do I have?
Well, for the last 15 years, I've been the Creative Director & co-owner of Black Sheep in Cardiff, one of Wales' leading creative agencies providing advertising & marketing support to companies and organisation's such as the Arts Council of Wales, Brace's Bakery, Barratt Homes PLC, Cadw (Welsh Historic Monuments), Cardiff University, Peter's Pies and SA Brain & Co together to name but a few, as well as having lectured for two years in Advertising & Design at Swansea Metropolitan University.

During the last year, I have made over 50 promotional films for companies such as Joio TV (an independent Welsh language television company), Certitec (an Adobe software, authorised training centre in Covent Garden London), Red House - an arts venue in Merthyr Tydfil, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru (Theatre Company Wales) and Light Couture - Europe's largest chandelier showroom in Hamburg, Germany. And most recently I've produced a mini documentary about sudden death bereavement and the trauma suffered by a family in South Wales as well as a promotion film for the charity founded by them.

Valley Town Landscape from Neil Asher Films on Vimeo.

This is a film that I've been wanting to make for a long time. A portrait, of the landscape of my home town, Neath, South Wales UK as well as giving me a reason to further explore some of the places I hadn't visited since a child and capture some of the view points of the places that the locals take for granted and forget to visit.

Special thanks to Marc Rees for his narration of R.S. Thomas' poem 'Welsh Landscape'

LOW WINTER SUN from Neil Asher Films on Vimeo.

After waving goodbye to Sara and the kids for another day at school, I returned to my hot coffee and some incredible light shining through the kitchen window from an uncharacteristic clear sky, for it was 21st January, 2013 and the sun had yet to rise above the 'Vole' mountain in Cimla, Neath.

So like a man possessed, I ran upstairs, got some kit together and threw it into the car. I then raced to the top of Drummau mountain to film the sun rising into the sky. Unfortunately, I missed that sweet moment but captured some lovely 'low winter sun' on the landscape.

Half term holidays are great for hooking up with chums and visiting local attractions, so we took a trip down west with the Harris family to Folly Farm in Pembrokeshire, West Wales.

Shot with: Canon 650d, Sony NEX-5n and a few GoPro Hero 3+ Black shots.

Bank holiday walks with our friends and their dogs is becoming a bit of a tradition for us as well as making a short film of it too.
This is an updated version (re-uploaded on 25th May for the Vimeo Weekend Competition) after performing a re-edit and change of audio track to comply with Vimeo's new copyright match policy.

April 2014 marked the 25th wedding anniversary of my sister-in-law & brother-in-law Rhian & Tony and to celebrate this awesome achievement, we holidayed together at the Sensatori resort in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt.

Shot with my Canon 650d with various lenses, together with a GoPro Hero HD and a few iPhone 5 shots.
Edit & Post: Final Cut Pro X as well as various effect plugins.
